Bird Strikes Pilot

bird strike prevention

The glass windows at the Johnson Pavilion and the Vet School’s Hill Pavilion have been retrofitted in order to reduce bird strikes. The retrofitting involved treating the exterior or the glass with horizontal lines spaced no more than 4 inches apart vertically. The spring 2015 Green Fund Grant coincided with spring migration and with careful monitoring it has been shown to be a success. Penn is among a hand full of schools on the cutting edge of addressing the issue. Some potential sites for future treatments have been identified, and could be replications of these treatments or use different treatment approaches.
