InstaHub Lighting Automation

InstaHub Lighting Automation device

A group of students developed a battery-powered device with occupancy/vacancy sensing capabilities that attach onto pre-existing toggle light switches for instant light automation. Often, the installation costs for occupancy sensors can account for more than 50% of light automation project costs. The devices developed under this project eliminate the high installation cost and find sustainable measures for minimal maintenance to simplify lighting automation.

This project is a pilot program that successfully installed 30 devices in several Penn buildings: Harnwell College House, Stouffer College House, W.E.B. Du Bois College House, and Huntsman Hall.
