Reusable Petri Dish Pilot

petri dishes

Glass petri dishes have been piloted in Murray Lab thanks to a Spring 2015 Green Fund Grant. The reusable glass petri dishes save energy in transport and delivery costs, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Penn researchers purchase 400,000 disposable petri dishes per year in Fisher alone. Glass petri dishes only need to be manufactured and shipped once, and only enter landfills when they are broken. The glass dishes are 50 times more expensive than the plastic, but can be reused many more than 50 times.
