"The Earth Day Project" is an online exhibition of archival photos and articles exploring the history of the first Earth Day celebration in Philadelphia, on April 22, 1970. Student activists at Penn played a major role in organizing Philadelphia's first Earth Day festivities, and to create the online exhibition, directed by Assistant Prof. of History Anne Berg, students in the School of Arts & Sciences sorted through digitized versions of old yearbooks, archived press coverage, and Penn's institutional records. The exhibit went live on April 22, at 7 pm, 50 years to the day after the region's first celebration of Earth Day. Read more at Penn Today, and visit the online exhibition here
