Office Depot recently announced their awards recognizing public- and private-sector companies across the nation for their leadership in green purchasing. The University of Pennsylvania was one of only four educational institutions to receive the Leadership in Green Purchasing award, and was the sole winner of the Office Depot Special Recognition for Greener Spend Analysis Award. This award recognizes the exemplary efforts specific to analyzing green spend data in order to make long-term sustainable spending decisions.

Mark Mills, Penn’s director of purchasing, said of the recognition: “We are pleased to work with a company such as Office Depot, which gives us access to the kinds of detailed data we need to make intelligent and practical decisions related to sustainability. Office Depot has been instrumental in helping Penn green its office supplies spend, and we look forward to continued collaboration moving forward.”

Award winners were selected from among Office Depot’s largest customers based on their expenditure on products with eco-attributes such as recycled content, energy-efficiency, and non-toxicity.
