ReThink: Penn MOVES Recap

October 24, 2016

The PennMOVES program began in 2008 to promote the sustainable re-use of clothing, furniture, and other gently used items left behind by students moving out of College Houses. 2016 greatly exceeded prior year collections.

  • 81,640lbs was donated to Goodwill, which was a 70% increase from 2015
  • 3,012lbs of non-perishable food was donated to Philabundance, a 28% increase from 2015
  • 1,950 books were donated to the Vietnam Book Drive, up 4% from 2015

Collections were also made for PennVIPS (Volunteers in Public Service) which receive gently used TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, floor lamps and other similar items which they distribute to West Philadelphia college-bound scholarship students.

PennMOVES is led by Penn Residential Services and supported by the Green Campus Partnership, the College Houses, and Student Eco-Reps who assist at donation sites.
