Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System

The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System ™ (STARS ® ) is a transparent, self reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. STARS is administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) with support and ongoing engagement from a wide variety of higher education stakeholders. The framework was developed to engage and recognize the full spectrum of colleges and universities, from community colleges to research universities, and from institutions just starting sustainability initiatives to longtime campus sustainability leaders.

STARS 2017 Report

Penn's 2017 STARS Report was submitted to AASHE on March 1, 2017. The University has received a Gold Rating under STARS Version 2.0.

While the 2017 submission has resulted in an improved score, it should be noted that AASHE has made a number of changes to the rating system categories since Penn’s 2014 submission. Detail on the differences between the 2014 tool and the 2017 tool is available upon request. Email sustainability@upenn.edu

Our report, along with a download, can be found on the STARS website.
