Student Eco-Reps

Program Overview

Penn Eco-Reps is an environmental leadership program that promotes sustainable lifestyles across Penn’s communities.  Representatives support the University’s Climate Action Plan through peer education, projects, and outreach events.  Eco-Reps represent an environmental consciousness and challenge their peers to adopt a culture of sustainability.

Select students, faculty, and staff work with campus stakeholders and within their departments and offices to develop educational events, activities, and campaigns aimed at supporting the University’s environmental goals and Climate Action Plan. Initiatives include energy conservation, waste and recycling practices, water conservation strategies, alternative transportation, consumer choices, and more. Eco-Reps interact with other environmental leaders on campus, and work to develop programs and events that challenge their peers to adopt more sustainable behaviors.

The Eco-Reps program is organized by sustainability staff in Facilities and Real Estate Services and is an initiative of the Penn Sustainability Office, an umbrella group of students, faculty, staff, and community members that promotes sustainable practices and policies on campus.

Student Eco-Reps Program

Penn’s Student Eco-Reps program is an internship program for undergraduate students interested in learning about environmental issues and working on sustainability projects that advance the University’s Climate Action Plan 2.0.

A group of 10–15 students are chosen each year to work with staff in Penn’s Sustainability Office and help to implement projects aimed at improving the University's environmental footprint in areas such as waste, energy, food, and water, as well as projects focusing on environmental education and literacy.

Eco-Reps work in small groups to design, pilot, research, and evaluate projects with guidance from Penn’s Sustainability Office.
